In a time of growing conflict and war in the Middle East, Ukraine, and around the globe, the urgency of the climate crisis, threats to America’s democratic processes, and a desperate need to reckon with historic and ongoing racial injustice, our country faces significant challenges. Kamal Hassan spent the first twenty years of his life in a refugee camp in southern Lebanon. Now he spends his time educating people about what it means to be a Palestinian in today’s world.

Kathy Railsback, Co-Clerk of Friends Peace Teams'(FTP) African Great Lakes Initiative, will speak on her work co-facilitating trauma education workshops for South Sudanese refugees with FPT partners in East Africa. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
Kathy has traveled to the region roughly a dozen times over the past 11 years. In 2023, she won a service award to work with FPT partners in Kenya and Uganda to offer trauma education workshops for approximately 600 refugees and to train dozens of South Sudanese facilitators.
